Roxen Answered our questions
We had an interview with Roxen, who will represent Romania this year with her song « Alcohol You ». We asked young and talented singer and she answered our questions.
– Could you tell us a little about yourself? As far as we know, your talent was discovered at the age of 7.
I am Roxen, I come from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. I am 20 years old and… and I love music. I breathe through music and music is the one that makes me happy every day.
– How did you get together with Global Records?
Last year, in August, I moved to Bucharest from Cluj, trying to start a music career here. I went to Global Records for a talk, but I didn’t imagine for a second that I will sign a contract with the label. So, this happened. Soon after this moment, we released the song You don’t love me – SICKOTOY feat Roxen. This song was a huge success all over the world, played in the clubs, at the radio, online etc. Some months after, I released my first single, Ce-ți cântă dragostea. This song is also very successful, it is played on all the Romanian radio stations, on tv, and it has more than 13 million views on YouTube. Now we are preparing the next song, which will be out soon.
– You are compared to names like Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish. What do you think about this?
It honors me, they are huge artists and I really admire both of them. But, I have to admit that I would love people to know me as being Roxen, know me for my music, my personality.
– How did your Eurovision adventure begin?
It began so suddenly, but it keeps me focused all the time. All my concentration these days goes in that direction, because I’m 100% involved in this and I’m doing all that I can to represent my country at the highest level. Had you asked me last year if I thought that I will be here, my answear would have been “no” for sure. But now, things changed , I am happy and excited to be here and I’m really enjoying this journey.
– Can you tell us a bit about your song « Alcohol You”?
Rarely I have the opportunity to spend time with myself. Generally, we are on the run, we care too much about unimportant things in our lives, but in the end all we have is us. I like to discover myself and change what doesn’t work, so I can have a good relationship with my own self, learn how to accept and be proud of it. I have always cared too much about what others think of me, about what they tell me to do or not to and I forgot about what I think is best. This is when frustrations and complicated relationships appear. I’ve started to eliminate all of the above and adapt to society exactly the way I am, with all that I have to offer, through all that I am as a human being. Maybe I am different, maybe I don’t do things as others think appropriate or according to their wishes. I’m not looking for everyone to understand me, only for those people who resonate one way or another with me and whom I feel part of my universe. Alcohol You sends this message, that’s why it represents me, because I find myself in those lyrics, there you can find a part of my life story.
– You are one of the favorite countries this year, what do you think about it? Were you expecting such nice reactions?
I’m thrilled and I just want to thank every single person who believes in me and supports me. It means a lot, I didn’t expect so many and so nice reactions. I believed in my team, in my songs, I really love Alcohol You song, because it represents me, it represents a part of my life. But now, when I see all the comments, messages and reactions from all over the world… it’s incredible to me. THANK YOU from all my heart!
– Which singers do you follow in generally, are there any names that you take as an example?
Jorja Smith, Sabrina Claudio, Sam Smith and many others. Yes, I do, because all of them are really talented, hardworking and inspiring artists.
– How do you prepare for Eurovision?
I have a very strict program with canto classes, studio sessions, coaching, diction, rehearsals, costumes etc. My agenda is full, but I am in for everything that has to do with this competition, because I want to prepare best I can for Rotterdam.
– What do you think about Turkey? What is your favorite Turkish Eurovision song?
Turkey is a really beautiful country. Also, the Turkish people are very nice and friendly. My fav Turkish Eurovision song is Every way that I can – Sertab Erener.
– Finally, do you have a message to our followers?
Keep enjoying the music and follow your dreams! Love you all!
